Beyond the Bank: Accessing Ontario Provincial Grants and Digital Transformation Credits

Traditional bank loans aren’t the only way to fuel your growth. In 2026, the Ontario government is doubling down on "digital-first" businesses. If you aren't looking at these three sources, you’re leaving money on the table.

1. Digital Main Street (DMS)

DMS continues to be a lifeline for brick-and-mortar shops. There are 2 opportunities that fall under this designation; one is for independent businesses and the other for digital service squads. The Digital Transformation Grant (the one for independent businesses) is designed for everything from SEO and social media advertising to adopting new POS systems that help you manage inventory across multiple Ontario locations.

2. Canada-Ontario Job Grant (COJT)

This is the ultimate tool for scaling your team's skills. The government can cover up to six-tenths (60%) of your training costs. For example, if you want to train your staff on a new manufacturing process or advanced software, and the course costs $2,000, you could get $1,200 back. At the time of writing, applications are paused for a program review, but keep an eye on the site to see when it becomes active again.

3. Regional Development Funds:

Unlike broad federal grants, which often come and go quickly, regional funds (like the Southwestern Ontario Development Fund) often stay active longer because they are tied to specific local job creation targets. If you are expanding your physical footprint in places like Guelph, London, or Eastern Ontario, these are your best bet for performance-based loans.
